Membership is restricted to 30, with no jurying of members or their work. Members should, however, be committed to the ethos and expectations of the group, especially attendance at meetings and joining in exhibitions.
On reaching 30 members, any member who has not fulfilled the requirement to attend at least 3 meetings per year (barring exceptional circumstances) will be asked to leave.
The group has a committee to make major decisions, and members agree to abide by committee decisions.
The group is made up of predominantly contemporary quilters and members aspire to produce textile art. All members want to develop their practice. The group is a ‘doing and making' group not simply ‘show and tell’. The expectation is that all members will join in activities and challenges. Members will support each other in their work. Members will be prepared to discuss their work with fellow members who will give each other robust and constructive feedback. We will share techniques, practice, ideas and problems.
We are an exhibiting group, with the expectation that all members will exhibit their work.
Meetings are from 11am til 3pm on the third Thursday of each month. The current (2026) venue is Theatre Deli, 107 Leadenhall Street, EC3A 4AF.
There is lift access and a disabled toilet, and these will be a consideration with any future venues.
Meetings comprise 'show and tell' with an emphasis on constructive feedback, and some group activity. This varies from practical exercises through to discussion groups and also talks from outside speakers.
There is often an optional outing to an art exhibition or museum after the meeting.
CTLondon.org.uk has been procured and is managed by the relevant committee member. Contacts or queries from the website are redirected to the CTLondon gmail address.
Notice of meetings is sent monthly via the gmail account and also via Whatsapp. Communication between members is primarily via Whatsapp, where relevant documents may be stored and retrieved.
An annual membership fee, payable in January, is sufficient to cover the costs of venue hire and contribute towards other costs (outside speakers, exhibition costs). Members joining part way through the year may pay a proportionate amount, and one free 'trial' meeting is encouraged prior to joining.
The group bank account is managed by the treasurer and accounts are regularly reviewed.
For exhibitions, currently biennial, it may be necessary to charge an additional fee to members.
A committee has been formed, its members have the following responsibilities:
(1) Chair meetings of the group
(2) Point of contact and recruiter of members
(3) Venue housekeeping (to make sure that it is ready for group and left clean and tidy at the end of each session.)
(4) Co-ordinate the delivery of the programme for year so that there is a lead for each meeting, we all know what we are doing and we have a productive time at meetings
(5) Exhibitions co-ordinator
(6) Website manager
(7) Treasurer and venue bookings
(8) Minutes
(9) Decisions will be made by majority with the Chair having a casting vote.
(10) Members of the group agree to abide by decisions of the committee.
(11) The majority of the business will be conducted by email and with brief quarterly meetings before or after we meet.
